My Design Style
Structural Design Style
I love all things that are simple, and I work very hard at everything I do to make sure that the next time I do something it is just as simple. In fact, I have gone as far as trying to deduce what empirical factors makes something simple. From my own observations, I have concluded that there are two main factors. The first factor is the degree of organization. You might not think of the human brain as being something that is simple, and you are absolutely right. With billions of neurons and an infinite number of possible synaptic connections, it's no wonder we still haven't been able to reproduce its abilities. But, with all its neurons and synaptic connections, the human brain wouldn't be smarter than a brick if it wasn't highly organized. The second factor that makes something simple is the number of variables affecting a particular entity. It's really a no-brainer to understand this when you stop to think that most explainations of this concept are more complicated than the idea itself. Less variables equals less mistakes. Reducing variables is the simple machine lever of ideas. The idea of reducing variables is used everywhere from physical and financial security all the way to corporations using economies of scale to produce products more efficiently and at a lower cost. Of course the terminology may be a little different, such as "minimizing risk" when talking about security concerns. Each website that I build is a reflection of this philosophy. They are both well organized and include very few variables, thus making them inherently simple.
Functional Design Style
I design websites in which you can log into and change or contribute your own content. The absolute last thing that I want to do is build you a website that can only be changed by first going through me. I want you to have as much creative freedom as possible. I also don't want to burden you with having to buy, install, and maintain some expensive software package in order to modify your website as you see fit. Once logged in you can modify existing content by searching for it in a filterable content browser, selecting the content, whether it be a page, blog or photo gallery, and editing that content in a WYSIWYG editor, just like you would in a Microsoft Word document. If you can send an email with an attachment, you will have no trouble learning to manage your own content on your own website. If you have your own Facebook or other social networking account, you are already a professional at using websites built by me.
I often think of my functional design style as being similar to that of Apple Inc. They are very famous for producing products that are so simple yet powerful that they verge on being intuitive. This gives their products a very low learning curve that almost any one at any age can learn. I design websites in the same fashion. I perform the difficult task of simplifying the end user's experience so that an owner of a website built by me never faces any technical burdens.
Aesthetic Design Style
It is always a top priority of mine to produce a website that is very clean looking and that incorporates design elements that fits the personality of a particular business or organization. If you are a bed and breakfast, the visual design elements should be both colorful and inviting not cold and sterile. If you are a business professional, then your website should look bold and powerful not weak and dainty. As with all the different design elements of your website, your input is very important to me. If you have examples of websites that you particularly like, I will be more than happy to incorporate some of those design elements into your website.
